Attacks by the Mexican Bromeliad Weevil, illegal collecting, and habitat loss are threatening the population of both the Cardinal and the Giant Airplant. Growing in clusters with 25-50 long, stiff leathery leaves, cardinal airplants have numerous purplish flowers surrounded with red floral bracts. Blooms all year especially from spring to early summer.
