Small (30-35″), slender trees, willows grow throughout the swamp and along our boardwalk. Long 8″ leaves, silvery white and waxy underneath, dangle from the spreading, slightly drooping branches of the willow. Male catkins and female catkins grow on separate trees. Female flowers mature into a long cluster of small fruits containing plumed seeds widely dispersed by the wind.
