Last Night, Last Year, New Year
Last night….last year…. New Year
Lucille took Noah and I through the thickest fog smoke to the marsh. We rung in the new year with the CMNC cattle herd talking about the future and what it holds for us. Right on the dot, midnight, I brought the new year in giving Reddy Moo Cow one of her favorite soft mints. I’d have kissed her on her pink nosy for good luck, but one of our younger bulls, Ian, ran her off. Immediately the herd surrounded the tractor, before we even turned her off. They had a LOT of questions. Probably about the fireworks, which are scary for domestic, agricultural and wild animals. I agree with them, it’s a strange and disruptive tradition. It can often cause injury and fatalities of animals. It was good to get to be with them for a while, it gives them comfort. Perhaps one day people will care about this enough to just watch some on TV. It’s like releasing balloons, it’s just a visual, and a detrimental one at that. There’s so many other ways to celebrate. Please, be mindful.
New Year
So…. did you make a resolution? We did! In 2025, I want to expand our educational opportunities for everyone. Immersive and hands on education. We are uniquely positioned in the community to do so much! These new educational opportunities may include a reintroduction of the weekend folk school, technology & nature (don’t fight it, marry it) Agroforestry & Food Forestry, mindfulness in nature, survival, coexistence etc. People tend to care about what they know and can relate to. In a rapidly developing Florida, the natural world, conservation and sustainability need new hearts. We are ready to open those hearts. Join us.
Also, this weekend, will be our GRAND REOPENING since the devastation of Hurricane Milton, the second major hurricane to hit us in 3 years. Come see us!
Hope to see you soon!
